Ancient Tree with Many Benefits

Gingko biloba (also known as Maidenhair tree) is the only surviving member of an ancient family of trees. In fact, fossil records date the tree from between 150 to 250 million years ago. The name “Gingko” is derived from the Chinese “Yin-Kuo” (which means “silver apricot”) and “biloba” (which refers to the shape of the leaves - two lobed and fan-shaped). Cautions and Contraindications

Ginkgo should be used with caution in any patient who is taking an anticoagulant or antiplatelet agents. These include warfarin, aspiring, and heparin. The extract is also contraindicated in people who suffer from bleeding disorders or are at an increased risk for bleeding such as before elective surgery or due to chronic use of Ginkgo.
